Torricella is a small town in the province of Taranto, Puglia. It sits within the  Primitivo di Manduria DOC (controlled designation of origin) zone in the east of the province of Taranto, in north-western Salento. Situated at 32 metres above sea level, it’s just 4 kilometres from Torre Ovo, a picturesque beauty spot on the Ionian coast.

The area’s rich history stretches back to the 11th century when a community of farmers and shepherds moved inland from Torre Ovo, seeking refuge from Saracen pirate raids.

Today, the town is clustered around an imposing three-towered castle hewn from tuff stone. Built under Aragonese rule in the second half of the 15th century, it is undoubtedly one of the most striking, best-preserved castles in the area.

Torricella has always been a farming area due to its soil and climate characteristics. It offers a unique terroir that has a symbiotic relationship with the sea and is blessed with a remarkable differentiation of soils and microclimates. As a result, this growing area yields a particularly interesting variety of different styles of wine.
